Southeast Bookstore-Textbook Rental Policies

Basement Kent Library

The rental fee is $18.33 per course, no matter how many rental books there are for your course!

Students must have a current ID and class schedule to check-out textbooks. Only textbooks on their schedule will be checked out to them during the first four weeks of classes. However, after the fourth week of the semester, a student may rent or buy any textbook.

All textbooks are to be returned NO LATER than 4:00 pm the Monday after finals. Textbook Rental has an after hours drop box (located in the first floor lobby of the University Center)during finals week and the weekend after finals. Students who do not return their textbooks by the deadline will be billed the price of the book.

Students who miss the deadline may file an appeal. The Textbook Appeals Committee consists of faculty, staff and students. The committee is responsible for reviewing the written appeals of students who fail to return their textbooks on time. The committee meets at the beginning of each semester. When turning in your appeal, please provide a copy of any documentation to support your appeal.

Click here for Appeals Form Information or you may contact Textbook Rental for an appeals form.

The University policy for the rental system:

*Textbooks shall be adopted for a period of two calendar years, with a limit of one book per course, and with all sections of a course using the same text. A variance of the limit of one textbook per course is automatically granted for:

**Five hour courses

**Volume 1 and Volume 2 textbooks

**Interdiscplinary courses. Requests for exception from the stated policy shall be decided at the department or School of University Studies level and should be based on academic needs and sound financial principles.

Faculty members are responsible for obtaining the complimentary desk copy from the publisher. We will be glad to provide contact information for publishers.

Graduate students must purchase all 500 level and above textbooks from the Bookstore. However, they may rent 100-400 level books, if they are receiveing 100-400 level credit. Occasionally, there will be only one or two graduate students in a class and Textbook Rental will sell the textbook to the student. Please keep the graduate students in mind when filling out the textbook requisition.
